Organization Description

Mission statementPlay is central to my work as a teaching artist and within my studio practice. I believe that play nurtures the kind of curiosity, empathy, and world-making that empowers young people to see themselves as stewards of possibility. I’ve developed curriculum and taught students ranging from elementary to college teaching classes ranging from paper puppetry to portfolio and concept development in preparation for art school applications. The work I’ve found most rewarding is developing curriculum for K-8 students that combines design thinking, embodied sculpture, and play. These lessons, framed as design challenges, have encouraged students to self-advocate, engage in critical dialogue with one another, and imagine new possibilities in a future they believe is not fixed. Building upon these workshops that create new objects and processes for temporary play, my goal is to co-design site-specific, interactive artworks, and projects with students that have a lasting impact on our community.
