Organization Description
| Mission statement | Chamber Music Madness (CMM) offers programs, workshops, and performance opportunities for youth and adults in the Pacific Northwest. Under the artistic direction of the Skyros Quartet, players of all ages learn the art of ensemble playing and chamber music performance. Founded in 2001, CMM fosters collaboration, expression, and confidence-building through a positive, joyful learning environment, aiming to build teamwork and communication skills. We reach out to underserved schools and students, offering tuition forgiveness and financial assistance where needed. CMM offers 4 youth programs of interest to orchestra teachers and students: 1) In-school chamber music coaching. In addition to our standard 10-week program for secondary schools, formerly called ECCHO, we are able to provide an array of services this year, recognizing the variable needs of school orchestras. This include master classes for the entire orchestra and other formats for learning about chamber music. 2) The Counterpoint Club podcast - the podcast is all about chamber music, designed to appeal to students. Our informative blogposts and Classroom Teacher Guide enhance its pedagogical use for teaching about chamber music, including its history and artistic skills. 3) Summer Student Festival - a week-long, fun learning experience for string musicians ages 13-24. 4) "Day of Madness" Saturday chamber music workshops for adults and students. |
| Service(s) description | Classical music played by small ensembles is called chamber music. Each player has a distinct, unique musical part. Although we focus on ensembles for violin, viola, cello, piano and woodwind instrument players, our curriculum and learning tools can easily be applied to all sorts of small ensembles, such as jazz combos, small bands, choral groups and other formal and informal gatherings of instrumental and vocal musicians. |
